$25m Awarded to North Carolina for Wildlife Crossings in Eastern NC!

Recently, under the umbrella of the Wildlife Crossing Pilot Program, the Federal Highway Administration announced an award of $25m to North Carolina for the construction of multiple wildlife crossing underpasses in Eastern NC. This area is home to critically endangered Red Wolves, whose ability to seek new territories for food, mates, shelter, and to form new packs (which is critical to maintaining genetic diversity), has been cut short by vehicle strike mortalities. For decades, vehicle strikes have been one of the top threats to Red Wolves on highways U.S. 64, U.S. 264, and NC 94 near the Outer Banks.

The North Carolina Wildlife Corridor team is incredibly grateful for the work of our partners and the invested public, whose dedication, determination, and commitment to work towards protecting the path of Red Wolves, just changed the trajectory of their future with this momentous win!
